Alex is an aquatic biogeochemist broadly interested in carbon cycling in freshwater and coastal systems. Specifically, she looks at organic matter quantity and quality in freshwater reservoirs, lakes, and coastal systems to understand how physical, biological, and chemical processes impact the carbon pool. She’s interested in understanding current controls on organic matter (and carbon!) processing and how these might change under future climate conditions using a combination of field, experimental, and modeling techniques.
Alex joined the lab in May 2019 and works on several projects related to carbon cycling in freshwater reservoirs under variable oxygen conditions. She is also involved in helping develop curricula for undergraduate and graduate students, and teaching students the fundamentals of macrosystem ecology and data literacy.
