{"id":255,"date":"2014-04-11T07:21:06","date_gmt":"2014-04-11T07:21:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/carey.biol.vt.edu\/?p=255"},"modified":"2014-04-11T07:21:06","modified_gmt":"2014-04-11T07:21:06","slug":"talks-at-university-of-michigan-and-pragma","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/carey.biol.vt.edu\/?p=255","title":{"rendered":"Talks at University of Michigan and PRAGMA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\tLots of travel this month!<\/p>\n<p>Cayelan has just returned from giving an invited talk at the University of Michigan&#8217;s symposium on &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lsa.umich.edu\/eeb\/news\/ci.10thannualearlycareerscientistssymposiumopeningdoorsforfuturecollaborationswed9apr2014_ci.detail\">Humans as a force of ecological and evolutionary change<\/a>&#8221; in Ann Arbor and left right after to give a talk with GLEON colleagues at the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.pragma-grid.net\">PRAGMA<\/a>\u00a0(Pacific Rim Applications and Grid Middleware Assembly) computer science conference in Tainan, Taiwan. \u00a0As part of a\u00a0<em>very<\/em>\u00a0interdisciplinary collaboration, Cayelan is working with Renato Figueiredo (U-Florida), Paul Hanson, Luke Winslow, and Craig Snortheim (UW-Madison) to use virtual overlay networks to improve lake numerical simulation modeling and is learning a lot about distributed computing!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/carey.biol.vt.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/ecss14_committee_speakers.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"ecss14_committee_speakers\" src=\"http:\/\/carey.biol.vt.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/ecss14_committee_speakers-300x172.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"172\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nInvited speakers and organizing committee of the symposium at U of M.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/carey.biol.vt.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/PRAGMA.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"PRAGMA\" src=\"http:\/\/carey.biol.vt.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/PRAGMA-300x240.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"240\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nPRAGMA meeting participants in Taiwan.<\/p>\n<p>We are getting ready for a very ambitious field season this spring\/summer and will post more updates as we get started!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;\t\t<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Lots of travel this month!
