Dr. Freya Olsson
Freya joined Virginia Tech in Summer 2022 after completing her PhD at the UK Centre for Ecology and Hydrology and Lancaster University. She is interested in integrating process-based modelling and field measurements to better understand the interaction of physical processes and ecosystem functioning and improve the management of freshwater ecosystems. Freya’s work at VT combines fundamental and applied research across the fields of freshwater ecology and environmental modelling, combining open-source software, sensor observations, and hydrodynamic models to develop forecasts of water quality in lakes and reservoirs across the continental US. Freya is co-advised by Dr. Quinn Thomas and Dr. Cayelan Carey.
