Mary Lofton joined the Carey Lab as a postdoctoral researcher in summer 2021. She is interested in studying how phytoplankton community dynamics change in response to climate and water management decisions, and how these phytoplankton community changes in turn affect reservoir ecosystem health and water quality for human use. She is currently developing near-term forecasts of phytoplankton to guide management and also improve ecological forecasting methods.
